SMA is actively tracking approximately 600 InsurTechs with relevance for personal lines insurers, a number that is changing every day through the entries of new companies and the exits of others. Insurers are still trying to sort the hype from the reality, determine how InsurTech affects their company or business area, and develop strategies for partnering or investing.

SMA’s new research report, InsurTech in Personal Lines: Examples, Use Cases, and Implications, is based on SMA’s ongoing tracking, analysis, and advisory work with InsurTechs and insurers. InsurTechs are categorized by location (country) and company type (tech, broker, insurer). The startups are also classified and grouped into nine key categories – such as greenfield insurer, distribution disruptor, smart home, etc. Many examples are given for all of the categories.
