The class of technologies referred to as collaboration technologies has expanded, matured, and enjoyed increased usage in insurance. A recent SMA survey assessed the usage and plans for twelve different collaboration technologies, as well as social media which increasingly overlaps with or integrates with collaboration. This research report, based on a survey of insurance company professionals in North America, assesses the progress of the industry, looks at why insurers are investing, identifies how both collaboration and social media technologies are being applied, and indicates where companies plan to continue investing over the next three years (2016-2018).

The report covers the current penetration levels for each collaboration technology, such as document sharing, chat, and real-time video, and shows the future plans in terms of evaluation or implementations. The top social media platforms are also identified.
